this is a portrait of chuck close. This was created in 2014. The medium that he used was oil on canvas. I picked this portrait because he used the three colors magenta, yellow and cyan. This is my favorite because it is very colorful. He uses a grid and turns them in smaller squares. They are painted individually.

this is a portrait of Marilyn Monroe. He created this portrait by creating bar codes. They can actually be scanned and you can see her clips from her movies. I picked this because I thought it was unique and different from other artists. I thought that this was really cool because I have never seen an artist incorporate barcodes in it. I think it's really advanced of him to do this.

Scott Blake also known for creating portraits. However, he uses barcodes and people can even interact with these barcodes. For example, Barcode Bruce Lee portraits has interactive barcodes. When scanning one you will be taken to a short fight clip from any movie.  It was created in 2007 through photoshop. A reason I liked this portrait was that the barcodes are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. Blake states that the barcodes arranged in such way “to break focus like a shockwave from a punch”

Chuck Close is a painter, artist, and photographer. Making large photorealist portraits that are created through a grid system. His portraits are unique and interesting because of the pixelated effect in which he paints each square individually. Looking through his works I really liked Cecily,2012 because you can make out it’s a female even though her features are not clear cut. Also, I like the use of similar colors to create this portrait.

This is an acrylic painting by Chuck Close called Nancy that was painted in 1968. He is known for his large scale, Photorealist artwork that is painted through a grid system. When he was younger, he suffered from dyslexia and facial blindness; he also suffered from damage to his anterior spinal artery which has left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair. The reason why I chose this painting is because I thought it was interesting that he painted the eyes crossed eye and the teeth in the front are crooked.

Scott Blake is an artist who creates portraits using barcodes. He uses barcodes that way people can interact with his art by scanning the codes with their phone.This particular portrait of Oprah is created from ISBN barcodes from her book club. I like how he is able to find and use certain barcodes to show the details in the face.

Chuck Close – Lyle, 2000

            I chose this piece by Chuck Close because he is known for his amazingly lifelike portraits. I love the etching he used to for this piece, as opposed to his other techniques. I also love his use of color. There are reds, blues, and yellows mixed together on his face as well as in the background. I love the detail and emotion on his face. Chuck Close is able to recreate portraits and faces in a unique and interesting way. 

Scott Blake – Barcode Jesus 

            One of the things Scott Blake is known for is making portraits out of barcodes. One of the reasons why I was drawn to this piece was because of the subject matter. As you mentioned in class, after the invention of the camera, certain subjects were no longer valued as much because they could be photographed, however, Jesus is not one of those subjects. It is interesting to see such an important figure of art history to be recreated in a modern form of art.

Chuck Close is an American artist who is best known for his grid-type artworks. He paints squares/rectangles to make a pixelated effect, usually faces in profile. I love this oil on canvas painting because it is a side profile, which differs from his usual works. 

Scott Blake - Martha Stewart

Scott Blake is an American artist whose work revolves around bar codes. He makes portraits of celebrities that consist of bar codes, which are actually scannable to songs or album covers. I found his work very unique and interesting.

Chuck close was an American artist that revolutionized the way to draw a portrait. Close used a big canvas and made a grid on it, and painted each square individually. Close started painting at a young age and relied on painting to get him through tough times in his life. In 1988 Close became almost fully paralyzed and developed face blindness. This didn't stop him from creating his work. As you can tell, if you look into his paintings before and after his trauma, the paintings become slightly more blurred, which depicts how he changed as a person. I think that this part of him is extremely unique and his perseverance shows. This painting was done after his accident, and we get an insight to what Chuck sees. 

I chose this painting because I was extremely intrigued by the design, when you look at this painting up close you just see a spiral of bar codes, however if you take a step back you can see a face. I think this is absolutely incredible what the artist was able to do with such a normal everyday thing, that we deal with very frequently. Scott Blake wanted to expand his art and created a software that took Close's paintings and put them into a different order, Close was not happy about this yet Scott continuers to make paintings with the software with other square objects.

 These images are created by Scott Blake and Chuck Close. They both have similar styles or art, which is photo realism with a twist. Some of Scott Blake's work like Marilyn Monroe as seen above is used from scannable barcodes, it was created in August of 2003 and updated in June 2011. Chuck Close's picture is titled Emma and was created in 2002 and it is a photorealism portrait. I chose these images because Scott Blake captured Marilyn Monroe's essence, and you can immediately tell that it is her. I chose a portrait of a baby because I hear that they are hard to get all the details right on the face and I think that he did a great job keeping the softness there.
