This is an oil painting on canvas made in 1879. Paul Gauguin is a French post-impressionist painter. He is most known for his experimental use of color. I chose this painting because it is still inspired by the impressionist movement. The use of mostly monochromatic colors creates a nice contrast against the dark trees. However, even with most of the painting being monochromatic, there are still distinct forms and structures in the background. There is also a clear foreground, middle ground, and background.
