Wayne Thiebaud

Wayne Thiebaud is a modern painter known for his edible-looking works of art. While his subject matter is often desserts, the painting I chose features a sandwich and is aptly titled "Sandwich." I like his use of clean lines in this picture. It suggests detail, rather than explicitly showing it. His use of a thick, almost excessive layer of paint gives the picture texture and character. This liberal application of paint is prevalent in many of Thiebaud's paintings. I chose this picture specifically because I enjoy olives, and this sandwich reminds me of eating lunch by a pool.
