This painting is called "Bow Tie, Pick, and Shoe. It was made in 1972 after Thiebaud returned home from war. Thiebaud is associated with the pop art movement because he is fscinated by objects of mass culture. He tends to use heavy and thick paint and exaggerated colors to depict his subjets. I think it is really interesting that a man of his age is creating such cool and fun artwork that everyone enjoys when they see it.
