April Gornick, Rising Moon

This painting is titled Rising Moon and it was painted by April Gornick in 1991. She painted it she was thinking about the beautiful night skies she sees especially when she was in the Caribbean vacationing. She says this was one of the paintings that pushed her to her edge to see what she was capable of. I liked that it was outside the norm of what she typically does and also what is typically seen in landscape paintings. I picked it because I think the contrast with the lights and the darks are very visually appealing. It is also a beautiful painting only using whites, blacks, blue and yellow. It's simple but very elaborate all at the same time.
