Rembrandt Self-Portrait

Self-Portrait by Rembrandt
Rembrandt painted this self-portrait in 1660. Rembrandt was 54 years old at this time. Many interpret the artist as anxious and worried, as this time was difficult for him. He was going into debt. The anxiety is seen in his raised eyebrows and wrinkles. Others see this self-portrait as a depiction of his aging. I chose this painting because it is probably very hard to paint a self-portrait so accurately, and how it shows the painter's emotions. This painting is currently displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
