I like this painting because of the intense attention to detail and how nicely the colors complement each other. The flag, the plume in the hat, and the sword-belt are beautifully embellished in gold and indicate the figure’s important civic duties. Rembrandt conveys a strong sense of character through intense details in the vigorously modeled face, the thick hair, and costume details.
