Approaching Night - April Gornik
April Gornik painted this in 2001. It is oil on linen. I chose this painting because it depicts a sunset which is so naturally beautiful. She captures the vivid colors of a sunset. She blends the colors smoothly, which is needed to depict an ombre sunset. Although she names it "Approaching Night," which sounds very dark, the painting itself is very bright and uplifting. Gornik's paintings are mainly of nature, with a focus on clouds. Her paintings, such as this one, are very realistic and seem like photographs at first glance.
