April Gornik is a modern artist best know for her landscapes. The painting I chose particularly displays her fascination with storms, something else she is known for. After briefly reviewing her portfolio, it is obvious that she enjoys recreating scenes which occur either directly before or directly after a storm. My chosen painting, "Big Storm Light," is an entrancing picture of what is either a brewing tempest or one that has just blown over. The top of the painting has dark, brooding clouds backlit by the sun. The dark tones are offset by the warm, hazy light and soft clouds towards the bottom of the picture. Gornik's subject matter is complemented by the rich tones of her chosen medium of oil paint.
