The Spectacles Seller


Rembrandt is one of the most famous Dutch painters. When he was 14, his parents put him into Leiden University. After college, Rembrandt trained with Jacob Van Swanenburgh for four years. One of this first works of art was " The Spectacles Seller". Rembrandt uses oil paint to create this painting. This painting is one of five in a series. The series is suppose to represent the five senses, this painting represents sight. He made this painting around the age of seventeen. Rembrandt uses a strong contrast of light and shade in this painting. In this painting, he paints an elderly couple buying a pair of glasses.
