Flora--Rembrandt

Rembrandt painted this oil painting in 1634 of his wife as the Roman goddess, Flora. This painting is in Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Flora is the goddess of spring and flowers, as well as fertility and youth. Rembrandt painted two other portraits of her as well. I chose this painting because of how beautiful of a portrait this is. In his other portraits, Rembrandt is very realistic in showing the person's features, especially wrinkles, and in this one, his wife does not seem to have these same imperfections. In addition, the way the woman's clothing was painted drew me in; I felt like I could almost touch it.
